The Green Deal presents a new commercial opportunity for many different product manufacturers to expand their market and deliver energy saving home improvements to households throughout the UK.
Products are called measures under the Green Deal and must be permanent fixtures within the property. Measures are split into four categories:
- Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning
- Building Fabric
- Lighting
- Microgeneration
Each measure will need to meet minimum safety standards as well as being assessed and certified for their energy performance. Only products which have been approved for the Green Deal can be used for improvements under the initiative.
The Government is still defining the criteria that products must meet. A list of products, materials and specification standards will be available and updated regularly to keep pace with future technological improvements.
BSI will be developing Green Deal Product certification as well as Green Deal Awareness training.
